Course Information
Recitations
are not required, but are strongly recommended.
This course carries one credit and consists of weekly group problem
solving sessions. Recitations are taught by experienced TAs who can address
individual problems and provide guidance in a small group session.
You
will primarily be working in small groups of 2 to 3 students, working through
individual problems with my guidance. We
will be tackling a couple of interesting problems each week with examples given
as needed. In addition, there will also be short direct question-answer periods
where you will be able to ask for clarification on any topic from the main
lecture. A single homework problem is assigned each week, due each Monday at 5
PM to my TA box on the second floor of Weniger. While in class work is done in
groups, the homework should be done alone. The grading rubric for the homework
problems is attached. To pass this class, you must receive 70% of the available
homework points, or 49 total points.
My
goal is to make the environment of this class much more informal than the main
lecture. We will be working through some
difficult problems this quarter, designed to be too difficult for a single
student to solve in the allotted time.
Openness when working in groups will be very important to your success
in this course.
