Our group meetings are open to all faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students who are interested in Optical Physics. Visitors are welcome, please inquire. May 19 Andy's and Whitney's paper entitled “Novel functionalized pentacene and anthradithiophene derivatives: photoconductive and fluorescent properties” has been accepted for presentation at the Organic Thin Film Symposium and selected for Sci-Mix poster session at the ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia, August 20-24, 2008.

May 15 We thank ONAMI for selecting our proposal entitled “Biochemical Sensors and Integrated Measurement Platform Controlled by Optical Tweezers and Microfluidics” (in collaboration with Profs. D. McIntyre, V. Remcho, A. Shvarev, S. Reed, S. Prasad) for funding.

May 5 Jonathan's paper entitled “Photoconductivity in organic thin films: from picoseconds to seconds after excitation” has been accepted for publication in Journal of Applied Physics.

May 1 Oksana will give an invited talk entitled “Organic (opto)electronic materials: understanding charge carrier dynamics” at NW APS meeting in Portland, OR, May 16–17, 2008.

Apr 25 Oksana will give an invited talk entitled “Photoexcited charge carrier and exciton dynamics in organic thin films” at ICONO10 in Santa Fe, NM, May 19–24, 2008.

Apr 15 Guy Cutting, an undergraduate student in computational physics, joins the group. Guy will develop software for fluorescence lifetime imaging. Welcome !!!!!!!!

Mar 25 We thank the OSU Research Office for funding our GRF proposal (in collaboration with Prof. S. Rao) entitled “The unanticipated effects of sunlight-induced fluorescence on native bee pollinator behavior.”

Mar 20 Oksana is scheduled to give an invited talk “Photoexcited charge carrier and exciton dynamics in organic thin films” at ICONO at Santa Fe, NM, on May 22.

Mar 18 Oksana visited Washington State Univeristy and presented a colloquium entitled “Organic optoelectronic materials: understanding charge carrier dynamics.”

Feb 25 Andy's paper entitled “Temperature Dependent Properties of Novel Functionalized Anthradithiophene and Dicyanomethylenedihydrofuran Derivatives” and Mark's paper entitled “Optical tweezers with resonant particles” are accepted for presentation at CLEO/QELS (San Jose, CA, May 2008) (papers CFG2 and JWA122, respectively).

Feb 20 Oksana's collaborative paper entitled “Fabrication and optical properties of nanoscale arrays of Au and Pd in polymers” (S.V. Atre, S. Bhowmik, O.P Valmikanathan, and O. Ostroverkhova) is accepted for presentation at the NSTI meeting (Boston, MA, June 2008)

Feb 6 We thank the NSFDMR for awarding us with a CAREER grant for a project entitled “Charge Carrier Dynamics in Organic Semiconductors: from Macroscopic to Microscopic Level.”

Aug 15 We thank the NSF/DMR for funding our MRI proposal on acquisition of a high-performance NSOM (in collaboration with Profs. M. Deutch, G. Richmond, and W. Roberts).

Jul 15 We thank ONAMI/ONR for funding our project “Beyond Sensing under Equilibrium: Photoresponsive Nanoprobes for Rapid Localized Acid-Base Titration” (in collaboration with Profs. A. Shvarev and D. McIntyre).

May 6–11 Andy and Mark attended CLEO/QELS in Baltimore, MD, and presented posters entitled “Fluorescent and photoconductive properties of functionalized pentacene and anthradithiophene derivatives” and “Optical field enhancement in tweezer trapping”, respectively.

Dec 22 Oksana's paper “Anisotropy of transient photoconductivity in functionalized pentacene single crystals,” published in Applied Physics Letters 89, 192113 (2006), has been selected for publication in the Virtual Journal of Ultrafast Science (Dec 2006 issue), and in The Virtual Journal of Terahertz Science and Technology (Nov 2006).

Dec 1 We thank the AFOSR for supporting our collaboration with Prof. Peyghambarian group at the College of Optical Sciences (Tucson, AZ) on 3D holographic updateable displays.

Apr 6–7 Oksana gave a seminar at the College of Optical Sciences in Tucson, Arizona.

Apr 3 Oksana is invited to give a talk at the Organic Thin Films Symposium, San Francisco, Sept. 10-14, 2006.

Mar 13 We thank Tektronix, Inc. for making us a charitable contribution of the 50GHz digital sampling system (CSA8200 mainframe with 80E01 sampling head) for the research of ultrafast carrier dynamics in organic semiconductors.

Jan 18 Oksana's paper entitled “Ultrafast carrier dynamics in organic semiconductors” has been accepted for presentation at the MRS meeting in San Francisco, CA, April 17-21, 2006.

Dec 29 The book “Photophysics of Molecular Materials: from Single Molecules to Single Crystals”, containing Oksana's contribution (chapter 7, "Probing organic semiconductors with terahertz pulses", with F.A. Hegmann and D. G. Cooke), is now available from John Wiley & Sons.

Dec 23 We thank the Petroleum Research Fund for funding our research project entitled “Charge transfer in organic semiconductors: from microscopic to macroscopic electronic properties on all time scales” !!

Dec 2 We will hold a mini-reception (Friday 4–5:30 pm, in Weniger 101), as the lab renovation is being completed. Please join us, everyone is invited and welcome !

Oct 17–19 Oksana gave an invited talk at Organic Thin Films Conference, OSA Annual Meeting in Tucson, AZ. Title: “Ultrafast photoconductivity in organic semiconductors.” She also chaired the session “Electro-optic modulators and devices.”

Sep 19 Oksana's most recent paper “Optical and transient photoconductive properties of pentacene and functionalized pentacene thin films: Dependence on film morphology,” Journal of Applied Physics 98, 033701 (2005), has been selected for the September 2005 issue of Virtual Journal of Ultrafast Science.

Sep 15–16 Oksana was one of the OSU representatives at the ONAMI Leadership Retreat. Regional strategy and funding plans and opportunities were discussed. She will brief the group at the next meeting (Sep 22nd).

Sep 7–9 Jonathan and Andrew attended the Workshop on Optical Physics, at the Oregon Center for Optics. They presented a report at the following group meeting (Sep 13th).

July 19–23 Oksana gave an invited talk at 10th International Conference on Photorefractive Effects, Materials and Devices in Sanya, Hainan, P.R. China. Title: “Recent advances in photorefractive organic materials.”
