PH104 is designed to show students a survey of the knowledge that we have in astronomy. Students will be shown how we have gained that knowledge, and what there is left to be learned. There will be many discussions on the nature of science. This course satisfies Baccalaureate Core requirement of a physical science course with lab. Therefore, the lab portion of the course is very important. This course is built around utilizing information in the lab, and using information gained in lab to developing an understanding of the cosmos. Students will be engaged in a discussion of the nature of scientific knowledge through the medium of astronomy. Students should expect to be shown the nature and grandeur of the cosmos as well as understand how we have come to the understanding of the cosmos that we have.
