Closed cycle water

Water-cooled equipment in Wngr 487 (diffusion pump on evaporator) and Wngr 481 (Hall magnet) is cooled by a closed cycle system that is run from a pump system located on the upper roof of Weniger Hall. The pump system is supplied by G & D Chillers.

The equipment in Wngr 489 and 481 is plumbed in parallel with the source. Each of the rooms has 2-3 parallel lines in the room. Usually only one is used. The town water supply is plumbed into the closed-cycle system in Wngr 489. It is used to refill the system if the supply becomes low. It should be checked monthly and the check recorded on the log on the door of Weniger 489. Issues concerning the chiller should be logged in the blue manual notebook (labeled “G&D Chiller) that is located in Weniger 489 in the bookshelf. The location of the key to the roof can be obtained from Janet.

There is a manual of sorts located in Wngr 487, in the small bookshelf near the door. It's a blue binder, I think.

Steve Allen (7-7645) of Facilities Services has been extremely helpful in maintaining the system, including adjusting the glycol mix. (2011→)
